This project is an architectural response to a global and serious issue. Currently one in seven people lives in a slum or refugee camp. Cities are growing as well as the gap between the rich and the poor. Millions of people suffer from the lack of proper housing and live in uncertain situations with their homes always at stake.

After studying this lack of proper housing, I found out that there’s a growing need for ‘ad hoc’ solutions which are solid and flexible enough for changing situations. The aspect of safety plays an important role in this issue as well as the financial limitations we face in this reality.

Born out of a graduation project Spaceblock offers an architectural solution that could be used in several Third World countries. It is a simple prefabricated building system that reacts on above-mentioned demands.

Believing that each individual has the right to live in a proper and safe place, I’m pushing through with this design, convinced of the quality it contains. Together with several other experts on different stages Spaceblock will be improved and expanded to a serious solution for so many people that are looking for a better place, but probably do not have the knowledge and possibilities to create it.
